This holiday season, for one weekend only, Dec 11, 12, and 13th, The Public Theatre, will present their acclaimed adaptation of A Christmas Carol followed bya holiday sing–a-long featuring Christmas Carol fiddler Jennifer Armstrong.The Public Theatre’s own version of Dickens’ classic has become a favorite holiday tradition in Lewiston/Auburn. This inventive adaptation, performed by six actors and a fiddler, was developed and written for The Public Theatre by Artistic Director Christopher Schario in 1993, and has since been published by Dramatists Play Service and is now regularly performed by theatres around the world.

The current Off Broadway hit, Men are from Mars - Women are from Venus-LIVE! comes to The Public Theatre for one weekend only, Nov 6th, 7th, and 8th. This one-man fusion of theatre and stand-up, is a light-hearted comedy based on the New York Times #1 best-selling book of the last decade by John Gray.

For the third year in a row, thousands of people throughout the state have voted The Public Theatre to be the BEST THEATRE IN MAINE in the Down East Magazine Readers’ Poll. A banquet celebrating the 2015 “Best of Maine” winners was recently held in Portland and the Co-Artistic Directors of Lewiston/Auburn’s professional theatre proudly picked up their award.

Chase away the winter blues with Christopher Durang’s hilarious and endearing comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, now playing at The Public Theatre Jan 23 – Feb 1.
Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, this hit Broadway comedy was hailed as “hugely entertaining” (USA today), and “deliriously funny” (NY Times).
