Summer Drama Camp Auditions Coming Up

UPDATE:  First Auditions MOVED to May 3, 2014.  Get your application in by Tuesday, April 22 to audition.

This summer, The Public Theatre, Lewiston/Auburn’s Professional Theatre, will offer a professional theatre training program for young actors, July 7-25,2014.  If you know an experienced young performer wanting intensive theater training, or a "raw talent" looking to channel their creativity and imagination, this high quality theatre program is for them.  Taught by theatre professionals, with professional standards and insights, this challenging and inspiring program is a unique alternative to traditional “drama camps”. Auditions will be held April 12, by appointment only.

Generous Grant To Support Maine Artists

The Maine Community Foundation recently granted $5,000 to The Public Theatre, of Lewiston, to support the theatre’s efforts to provide meaningful employment to Maine theatrical designers. 

“On behalf of our 16,000 yearly patrons, I would like to thank The Maine Community Foundation for providing funds to employ talented theatrical artists who have chosen to live and work right here in Maine.  Thanks to their support, we will be able to continue our tradition of hiring 12-14 Maine-based, professional designers for our scenery, lighting, costumes and sound," said Christopher Schario, Executive/Artistic Director of The Public Theatre.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL Opens Friday at The Public Theatre!

This holiday season, for one weekend only, Dec 13, 14, and 15th, The Public Theatre, will present their acclaimed adaptation of A Christmas Carol. “There’s a great reason why this story is told during the holidays”, says Artistic Director Christopher Schario. “Sometimes it’s easy to forget the true meaning of the season in all the holiday shopping. Watching Scrooge’s journey awakens my own holiday spirit and always gets me ready to truly celebrate Christmas.”
Another thing worth celebrating is The Public Theatre’s top ticket price of only $20 for adults and $5 for everyone eighteen or under. It’s professional theatre at a price even Scrooge would love!

A CHRISTMAS CAROL returns to The Public Theatre!

This holiday season, for one weekend only, Dec 13, 14, and 15th, The Public Theatre, will present their acclaimed adaptation of A Christmas Carol followed by a holiday sing-a-long featuring Christmas Carol fiddler Jennifer Armstrong. The Public Theatre’s own version of Dickens’ classic has become a favorite holiday tradition in Lewiston/Auburn. This inventive adaptation, performed by six actors and a fiddler, was developed and written for The Public Theatre by Artistic Director Christopher Schario in 1993, and has since been published by Dramatists Play Service and is now regularly performed by theatres around the world.
