- In 17 seasons, over 200,000 people have attended over 100 productions at The Public Theatre. Over 65,000 students have attended special matinee performances, many experiencing live theatre for the first time. Last season almost 5,000 students from 66 regional schools attended student matinees. High artistic quality and a top ticket price of only $18 puts The Public Theatre right on track with its mission of bringing first-rate professional theatre to the people of Maine at an affordable price.
- In the last several years TPT has invested over $1,400,000 in Capital Improvements, adding its own distinctive mark on the redevelopment of the Southern Gateway into downtown Lewiston. The Public Theatre recently received a grant of $250,000 from Jane’s Trust in Boston to support our capital campaign.
- The Public Theatre was voted the “#1 Gem in Lewiston/Auburn” by The Sun Journal readers’ poll.
- The Public Theatre was voted “Best Theatre Company” four out of seven years in the Portland Phoenix Readers’ Poll (2001, 2002, 2005, 2007).
- In its 2007-2008 season, The Public Theatre broke all previous box office records, and had its most successful season to date.
- The New England Theatre Conference honored The Public Theatre for its artistic excellence in 1995 and 2004.
- The Public Theatre has received foundation support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Shubert Foundation, Maine Arts Commission, Maine Humanities Council, Davis Family Foundation, MainStreet Foundation, Helen & George Ladd Charitable Corporation, Betterment Fund, Stephen & Tabitha King Foundation, Fisher Foundation, Simmons Foundation, Lincoln National Foundation, New Balance Foundation and the Margaret Burnham Foundation.
