Summer Drama Camp
In July 2010 we launched our inaugural Summer Professional Theatre Training Program. Taught by seasoned theatre professionals, offering professional standards and insights, our three-week long training program is a unique alternative to “Drama Camps” and the best place to start learning the tools for acting. We encouraged young actors to tap into their potential - making the process of creation as important and exciting as the final show. Through our audition application process we accepted 15 students who took classes in stage combat, movement, voice and speech, singing, text analysis and a master acting class. The final week was an intensive rehearsal process which culminated in a public performance attended by over 100 people. Scholarship funds were available to those who could not afford tuition for the program.
We expect to finalize the information for the 2011 program by early spring of 2011.

Whether you’re an experienced young performer wanting intensive theater training, or a “raw talent” looking to channel your creativity and imagination, this high quality theatre program will challenge and inspire you. Taught by theatre professionals, offering professional standards and insights, The Public Theatre’s professional theatre training program is a unique alternative to summer camps with drama programs and the best place to start learning the tools for acting.
Our three week acting program, offered July 5th - 23, 2010, Monday - Friday from 9am - 4pm, will include classes in stage combat, movement, voice and speech, singing, and text analysis during the morning sessions. Afternoon sessions will be used for master acting classes and rehearsals. The program will culminate in a public performance at the end of the final week of camp.
We encourage young actors to tap into their potential - making the process of creation as important and exciting as the final show. Students will learn to think on their feet and work as an ensemble, building self esteem, confidence, and acting skills, while having tons of fun!

back to topAudition Information
Students interested in attending drama camp will be asked to audition with a memorized monologue of their own choosing. The monologue should be approximately one minute long and can be taken from a play, a poem, or adapted from another form of literature. Monologues that work best are those in which one character is talking to another character from whom they need something.
Also, please prepare a one-minute segment of a song which you may sing a cappella. Students should also provide a resume of their theatrical experience.
A final round of auditions will be scheduled for June. You will be contacted regarding auditioning scheduling.
